Every year, all 12 SEC schools get together in Austin for the annual SEC Tailgate Picnic to kick off football season. For the past several years the picnic has been held in Zilker Park at the Polo Tables the weekend before college football begins. In 2011, the picnic was held on August 27th. This year the temperature was at an annual high of 111 degrees! Although the picnic was a tad smaller than it has been in previous years - due to this hot weather - we still had a few hundred folks brave the weather and come out to kick off college football season! And as it has been every year, LSU was by far the largest group there. Keep in mind - we expect that to change with the addition of Texas A&M to the SEC beginning next year! As usual, we had many of our fine LSU folks show up with chips and snacks and sides and desserts to share.
Once again the big hit was the food from Stuffed!! Stuffed supplied all kinds of meat - along with a big pot of jambalaya! Even though the open fire burn ban scaled it back a bit as compared to last year - there was still ample food for everyone! If you are ever in the Lakeline area, check out The Stuffed store at 12226 Ranch Road 620 North, Austin, TX 78750! And make sure to ask them - hey you guys showing up at the SEC Tailgate Picnic again?? We would sure love to have them!
Also a special thanks goes out to Chris Smith with FLO Grills located at 13359 183N ATx 78750 for providing the grill and cooking utensils so that stuffed could work their magic!
We are looking into alternative locations because the addition of A&M could grow this thing substantially and perhaps even grow us right out of Zilker Park. If you have never been - there is always next year! And if you head out there every year - then we will see you in August of 2012 - if not before!
